Watchman duty forces student to end life?

Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH: A B.A. second year student, Chennur Subrahmanyam (19), committed suicide by consuming pesticide in the Telugu Ganga office late on Friday night.

A bright student in the Government Arts College and a good athlete, Subrahmanyam had been working as a night watchman in the office for the last one month in place of his father, Chennur Munaiah, according to the police.

The boy had been working against his wishes under pressure from his father, the police said. Munaiah came home drunk and forcibly sent him for the duty after an altercation.

Peeved by his father's behaviour, the student ended his life. Munaiah spotted his son's body in the office on Saturday morning.
