Rationalists for abolition of Endowments Department

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Atheist and Rationalist Association (FARA) and Indian Humanist Association has asked the Government to stay away from activities that are religious in nature and abolish the Endowments Department.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, N. Innaiah of FARA said the Government should be secular and adopt same policy for Hindu temples as was practised for institutions of other religions. "The control of temples should be removed from the Endowments Department and handed over to trusts and other similar bodies," he said.

Abolition of the Endowments Department and merger of staff with other departments apart, the associations wanted all exemptions to temple income and properties be withdrawn immediately. They also demanded action against `Babas' and other `Mutts' facing complaints of corruption and also objected to the State Government providing budget for a place of worship at the Secretariat.
