Advani resignation a drama, says DMK

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, has described the resignation of L.K. Advani as BJP president and his subsequent withdrawal as nothing but a "drama."

In a statement here on Saturday, Mr.Karunanidhi said a resolution adopted at a recent BJP meeting showed that it had utilised Mr. Advani's speech in Pakistan as an opportunity to indulge in mud-slinging activities against Jinnah. The resolution citing Jinnah as responsible for a "communal clash" was nothing but an attempt by the party to create disaffection among Muslims in the country. If the BJP tried to take advantage by creating communal disharmony in the country it would be disappointed.

He appealed to people to be aware of the "dangerous designs" of the BJP's resolution and strengthen the hands of the secular Government at the Centre.
