Police fail to trace Babbar Khalsa chief's accomplices

Staff Reporter

Most shift base after the arrest of Hawara

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police are finding it difficult to trace the accomplices of Jagtar Singh Hawara, the Babbar Khalsa International chief of operations in India, as most of them apparently shifted base soon after news of his arrest became public.

During interrogation, Jagtar Singh disclosed the names of some of his accomplices who were earlier operating from different parts of Punjab. At his instance, several teams mounted raids but the suspects had fled by then. Meanwhile, Jagtar Singh is being interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau and Central Bureau of Investigation officials.

Jagtar Singh and the two accused in the twin blasts that rocked cinema halls here on May 22 were arrested at the Narela Industrial Area in North-West Delhi this past week. The Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch had recovered 10.35 kg RDX, remote-controlled explosive devices and other ammunition from their possession. The accused were trying to escape to Nepal after collecting money from a hawala dealer, who is yet to be traced.
