BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has directed advocates and the Government to suggest the names of four doctors for inclusion in an expert committee to go into the functioning of 16 government and autonomous hospitals in Bangalore. The Bench passed the order on Friday while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by B. Krishna Bhat highlighting the poor state of affairs in government hospitals and praying for the appointment of a court commissioner to inspect the hospitals and submit a report. The Bench, which is monitoring the functioning of government hospitals, asked the advocates representing various hospitals, the government advocate and the petitioner to suggest names of a cardiologist, urologist, oncologist and a general surgeon. It said the advocates could give the names to it, and it would constitute the committee to go into the bed strength, equipment, supply of medicines and other aspects. The hospitals which the committee will monitor include Victoria Hospital, Vani Vilas Hospital, NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences), K.C. General Hospital, Minto Eye Hospital, Kidwai Institute of Oncology and Sanjay Gandhi Accident Hospital and Research Institute. The Bench adjourned further hearing of the case to June 21.
