HYDERABAD: The Additional Commissioners -- A.K. Khan (Traffic) and Tejdeep Kaur Menon (Coordination) -- who swapped positions following the transfers effected by the State Government recently, took charge of their new assignments on Saturday.
Change in attitude
Mr. Khan had worked as DCP (Traffic) way back in 1989-90. Listing out his priorities, Mr. Khan told The Hindu that the focus would be more on traffic regulation. "All officers, including myself would keep a watch on the roads for a few hours everyday to study the basic problems related to traffic and have a first hand knowledge of it," he said. This, he said, would have a psychological impact on road-users too. Mr. Khan said that the initiatives of his predecessor would continue and he would strive for better coordination with other departments like MCH and Roads and Buildings. He underlined the need for a change in the attitude of drivers of buses, lorries and other heavy vehicles. "Our immediate priority is to ensure smooth flow of traffic as schools are re-opening and monsoon setting in," Mr. Khan added.
Focus on curbing crime
Meanwhile, Ms. Menon said her focus would be more on curbing crimes against women. "I am studying other problems faced by citizens of the twin cities as well," she said. She also intends to take a tough stand against the land grabbers, especially in the old city.
