VIJAYAWADA: Response for The Hindu Education Plus workshop on engineering and medical careers, on Saturday, was overwhelming. Students from 16 districts from all three regions of the State attended the workshop along with their parents. While Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions sponsored the event across the State, the sponsors for Vijayawada were State Bank of India and Varun Bajaj. The event held in Tirupati on June 9 was sponsored by Indian Overseas Bank, Vijayawada. Students came from as far as Dhone in Kurnool district, Guntakal in Anantapur district and from different places in Nellore, Cuddapah, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Khammam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, West Godavari, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Prakasam districts. Over 900 students, most of them with at least one parent in tow, participated with enthusiasm in the different sessions.Nearly 600 students registered for the morning session meant exclusively for the engineering stream. Extra chairs had to be put in the passages for the unexpected crowd. The head of the department of computer science and information technology of Acharya Nagarjuna University, P. Trimurthy, the president of the Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG), G. Subba Rao, and the principal of V.R. Siddhartha Institute of Technology, V. Vasudeva Rao, told the students of the benefits and pitfalls in selecting different engineering disciplines. The Deputy Editor of The Hindu , Hyderbad, P.K. Kurien, welcomed the gathering and the Chief of Bureau of The Hindu , Vijayawada, A. Saye Sekhar, presided over the morning session. The City Editor of The Hindu , Hyderabad, K. Srinivas Reddy, explained the contents of the guide supplied to the students. The brief presentations by the resource persons were followed by a lively interaction session. The message from the Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu , N. Ram, was read out by the Regional Manager of The Hindu , Vijayawada, M. Krishna Kiran. Over 300 students registered for the evening session meant for the medical stream.
