HYDERABAD: Six trade unions, cutting across ideological and political affiliations appealed to different sections of people to work together in eradicating child labour and enrol as many children as possible in school. At a press conference here on Sunday, the Minister for Technical Education, N. Narasimha Reddy, himself a trade unionist and President, Andhra Pradesh Federation of Trade Unions for Elimination of Child Labour (APFTUCL) and others reinforced the appeal. The Minister recalled that during the past few years, the Federation, with support from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) had been being doing good work, improving awareness among people and fighting those who violated the child labour laws. He said estimates had revealed in recent times that at least three lakh children have been admitted in school. It was for the first time all trade unions came together, he said, adding that with the motivation of the ILO, rallies and meetings were being held in all district headquarters. The six unions which came together are -- All India Trade Union Congress, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Centre for Indian Trade Unions, Hind Mazdoor Sangh, Indian National Trade Union Congress and Telugu Nadu Trade Union Congress (TNTUC).
