CHENNAI: About 20 huts were destroyed in a fire accident in different parts of the city on Saturday. However, no loss of life was reported. The first accident occurred at S. M. Nagar in M.K.B.Nagar area, where seven huts were destroyed. Two fire tenders and three Metrowater tankers brought the fire under control in about 45 minutes. Cause of the fire was under investigation, the authorities said. The second accident was reported at 1 p.m. at Thomas Street, Teynampet, where five huts were gutted. Two fire tenders put out the fire in about half an hour. A spark from an unattended oven caused the fire, said the Fire and Rescue Service authorities. The third fire accident was reported at Tiruvottiyur, in the afternoon where six huts and two thatched roofs were destroyed. Four tenders and three Metrowater tankers brought the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fourth fire call was received from Trustpuram in Kodambakkam, where a thatched roof in the first floor of a fast food outlet, located on 8th Cross Street in the area, was destroyed in a fire. Leakage from a LPG cylinder sparkedthe fire, they said. The fire was put out in half-an-hour, they said. Corporation Deputy Mayor R. Thiagarajan and chairman of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board N. Balaganga visited the area.
Killed in accident
A Head Constable attached to Kodungaiyur police station died on Friday night of injuries sustained in a road accident.
