PONDICHERRY: The Secretary of Pondicherry committee of theAIADMK, A. Anbalagan, MLA, has called upon the Union Administration to ensure that private and government-aided private schools did not collect hefty fees from students. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said a demonstration would be staged by AIADMK activists before the Directorate of School Education next week to demand action against private school managements indulging in this practice. It would also urge the government to abolish entrance tests for admission to professional courses in the Union Territory. "The government should admit students to professional courses only on the basis of marks obtained in public examinations," he said. Mr. Anbalagan alleged that the Department of Elections was deleting the names of hundreds of eligible voters from the electoral rolls here without justification. In Uppalam constituency, which he represents, names of 2,133 voters had been deleted and names of equal number of voters included. A total of 75,000 voters were affected following deletion of their names, he alleged. Mr.Anbalagan also said that groupism was eating into the ruling Congress dislocating implementation of welfare schemes by the Congress government here.
