Pondicherry releases list of appointments to statutory bodies

PONDICHERRY: The Pondicherry administration has released the second list of chairmen appointed to statutory bodies, bringing the total to 12. Lt.Governor M.M. Lakhera has made the appointments and orders have been issued to all of them.

The Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee president, V. Narayanasamy, told newsmen here on Sunday that the PCC secretary, K. Vinayakamoorthy, has been appointed chairman of the Pondicherry Industries Promotion Development and Investment Corporation. Two former Ministers, L. Joseph Mariadoss and M. Kandasamy, were appointed chairmen of the Pondicherry Power Corporation and the Pondicherry Society for the Care of the Aged.

Two former MLAs, V. Balaji and T. Thiagarajan, have been appointed chairmen of the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation and the Pondicherry Planning Authority.

M. Mohanavelu of Karaikal has been appointed chairman of the Karaikal Market Committee.

The former State Social Welfare Board chief, M.K. Sayeekumari, has been appointed chairperson of the Corporation for Development of Women and the Physically Handicapped.

A few months ago the first list of non-official incumbents of seven statutory bodies including the Corporation for Development of Backward Classes and Minorities was released. They have since assumed charge.

For the first time the Government-owned PIPDIC, PTC and PPC have been assigned non-official persons as their heads.

Mr. Narayanasamy said there was no truth in the allegation by some Opposition parties that Karaikal had been neglected. Of the 12 incumbents appointed for the statutory bodies three are from Karaikal, he said.
