NALGONDA: Barring mild protest from activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), works on the controversial Pulichintala project resumed peacefully at Vajinepally of Mellacheruvu mandal in Nalgonda district on Sunday. Satish Chandra, Secretary (Irrigation), K. Vijayanand, Nalgonda Collector, Bapuji, Superintendent Engineer, Pulichintala project, Mallu Ravi, State Government representative in New Delhi and M.M. Bhagwat, Superintendent of Police oversaw the resumption of works. About a dozen activists of the CPI (M), led by Munagal Mandal Parishad President, Ramulu, reached the spot with red flags and raised slogans demanding early payment of compensation. Mr. Ravi assured them of taking proper care of the evacuees. Later the Collector told The Hindu that a draft notification for the land acquisition would be issued within a week. He also said two places, one at Kodad and another at Mallareddygudem, had been identified for construction of colonies for the evacuees.
