NANDYAL: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, assured the house owners that property taxes would not be enhanced in municipal towns. As part of the `Nagara baata' programme at Nandyal on Sunday, Dr. Reddy received representations for reducing the tax rates. However, he said since the tax rates were revised four years ago, they could not be reduced now but there would be no further hike in near future. The Chief Minister laid foundation for sports complex proposed at a cost of Rs 1.25 crores and the bridge across the Kundu river costing Rs 2.5 crores. Dr. Reddy responded positively to a plea for carrying out repairs to a hundred-year-old mosque.
Residents' demand
The residents of Nandamuri Nagar strayed on to the way of the convoy asking for merger of the locality with the municipality. The Chief Minister expressed dismay when the residents brought to his notice that the locality had fallen neither under the limits of municipality nor the panchayat. He promised to issue notification within a fortnight for the merger. Dr. Reddy promised tap connection for Rs. 1,200 for every household. He said keeping in view the importance of sanitation in controlling diseases, the scheme allowing collection of garbage from every household would be introduced in all urban areas.
Inauguration spree
Dr. Reddy inaugurated the Municipal Centenary Town hall built at a cost of Rs 1 crore in the town. He inaugurated the Municipal park and summer storage tank, over head reservoir, and gowdowns. Later, he inaugurated the mineral water plant which was intended to supply water to families at Rs. 5 for 25 litres. The plant was put up with the assistance given by Shilpa Seva Samithi. Also, he laid foundation for bypass road and housing complex under Rajiv Grihakalpa scheme.
Assets distributed
Dr. Reddy distributed assets and financial assistance given under Shilpa Seva Samithi, an organisation floated by the local MLA. The MLAs--E. Pratap Reddy, Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, Ch. Ramakrishna Reddy, Shilpa Mohan Reddy--the MP, S.P.Y. Reddy, and others were present. The Collector, Vikas Raj, and other officials attended.
