Haryana officials to assess loss caused by storm

Hooda assures help to affected people, Red Cross to provide free medical aid to the injured

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said on Sunday that 21 people and 82 animals had lost their lives in the high velocity storm which struck the State on the night of June 9 and 10. Talking to media persons at Fatehabad, he said that the Revenue officials had been instructed to assess the loss caused by the storm so that adequate assistance could be provided to the affected persons.

The Red Cross Society would provide free medical aid to the injured. Mr. Hooda handed over a cheque of Rs. two lakh to Subhash Chander of village Bhagar, who lost his son due to drowning in the water tank during the storm. He also gave a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to Jagir Kaur who lost her husband, Kartar Singh, after a tree fell on him.

He also assured the villagers of Daryapur and Karnauli that help would be extended to the storm-affected people. The Deputy Commissioner of Fatehabad disclosed that seven persons had lost their lives due to storm in the district, including a women and 13 milch animals also died. He said that so far a loss of Rs.1.86 crores had been assessed.

About 31 houses had collapsed and the cotton plantation had also been adversely affected, he added.

Relief cheque

Mr. Hooda has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to assess the loss caused by the storm and submit their reports to the Government so that adequate compensation could be given to the affected people.

The Chief Minister had air-dashed to Sirsa district on Sunday to see for himself the loss caused by the recent storm and also console the families who had lost their dear ones. While talking to media persons at village Chatrian, 15 km from Sirsa, he said that the farmers whose crops had been damaged would also be compensated. He handed over a relief cheque of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Patasi Devi.

He also visited village Qutabgarh to hand over a cheque to the next of kin of Joginder Bhai. He also visited village Rasaliakhera to console the next of kin of Ram Singh and handed over the relief cheque to them.

Mr.Hooda announced that the owners of the milch animals which had died in the recent storm would also be compensated. Rs. 10,000 would be given on the death of buffalo or she-camel, Rs. 5,000 on the death of cow and Rs. 2,000 each on the death of sheep or goat.
