THRISSUR: A.G. Vijayan, 50, former district secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) who had worked as Leader of the Opposition in the erstwhile Thrissur municipality, was found dead in a water tank at Thekkinkadu Maidan here on Sunday afternoon. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Vijayan was the Leader of the Opposition during 1988-93 and DYFI district secretary during 1986-92. The CPI(M) has demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of Vijayan. The party has called for a hartal till noon in Patturaikkal and Punkunnam areas on Monday to mourn Vijayan.
