Elderly couple attacked, robbed

BANGALORE: A four-member gang assaulted an elderly couple and took away gold ornaments worth Rs. 30,000 from their house in Ittamadu in Subramanyapura police station limits in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said Ramachandra (72), a retired employee of Indian Telephone Industries, and his wife, Seetalakshmi (62), were sleeping in the first floor of their A.G.S Layout house.

Around 2 a.m. four persons broke open the front door. On hearing the noise the couple came down. The miscreants hit them with blunt weapons and snatched Seetalakshmi's "mangalsutra."

Then they went to the couple's bedroom, took few more gold chains, and escaped.

The police said the couple took treatment in a private hospital and are out of danger.

Constable killed

Shivananda Sharma (45), a police constable attached Hebbagodi police station, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with another motorcycle near Gunjoor overbridge in Varthur police station limits on Saturday night.

The police said Sharma, was returning home with his colleague Huchappa when the accident occurred.

While Sharma died on the spot, Huchappa has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries.
