BANGALORE: A strategy for combating crime and solving traffic snarls will be devised shortly after meeting various police officers, said the Commissioner of Police, Ajai Kumar Singh. Mr. Singh told The Hindu on Sunday that he is holding meetings to understand the situation. "Although I have worked in various positions in the city, I need to understand the condition. I want to know from my officers of the patterns, if any, in the murders and the dacoities. Only then can a strategy be devised to tackle them," he said. Mr. Singh, who took charge on June 8, has held meetings with the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and the Assistant Commissioners of Police. He said he has called for a meeting with the City Crime Branch officials. He will get inputs from traffic police officials on Monday.
Boost the morale
To boost the morale of the policemen, the Commissioner has asked all the eight DCPs to hear official grievances one day in a week. "The DCPs will sit for two hours. Any policeman, during this time, can meet the DCP and tell his grievance. A register will be maintained of the policemen meeting the DCP, their problems, and the action taken by the official," he said. Acting on this, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic- East), M.A. Saleem, has asked his men to report their problems every Saturday between noon and 2 p.m.
Welfare measures
Mr. Singh, in the first meeting of DCPs, has urged them to come out with three welfare schemes for the families of policemen.
