Inculcating values in education

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Delhi-based non-governmental organisation, World Association for Value Education (WAVE), hosted a meeting of its members at the India International Centre here on Sunday to thank the principals and teachers of schools and parents of students for their cooperation in the success of a series of workshops on orientation of values in academics conducted by the association since 2001. Noting that these workshops are part of the programme mooted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Association said these were held three days and have the expert faculty members as the resource persons interacting with the teachers and addressing them on various issues concerning inculcation of values in almost every academic discipline.

So far the Association has conducted 45 workshops in Delhi, Faridabad, Noida, Rewari, Amritsar, Meerut and Arunachal Pradesh. Addressing the meet, eminent educationist, Kireet Joshi, lauded the efforts of WAVE and hoped that in the long run the teachers would ensure that the objectives of the workshops were achieved.

In his address the founder president of WAVE, Air Marshal Surenji Goyal, said the Teachers Training Programme of the Government of India was an important step in value orientation of education. He also demonstrated Cosmic Dance, a yoga-based performance of coordinated movements of body and limbs, which, he said, ushered group and social harmony. Mr Goyal also presented books as mementoes to the participating teachers and principals.

The executive secretary general of WAVE, Som Dutt Dikshit, reviewed the series of workshops during the meet while the executive president of the Association, C.M. Vyas, proposed a vote of thanks.
