KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday held talks with representatives of the Jacobite and Orthodox factions regarding the opening of the disputed Kolenchery St. Peter's and St. Paul's Orthodox church, which has been closed since 1998. Efforts will be made to reopen the church before the annual festival, which begins on July 12, members of the Orthodox Jacobite Joint Council said. In a discussion a fortnight ago under the chairmanship of District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, it had been decided that the Public Works Department will carry out repair works in the church.
