THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cantonment police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of mobile phones from various parts of the city and Kollam. The accused were identified as Yahiya 31, of Mangode and Sathar 36, a resident of Kottiyam. The police also recovered a number of stolen mobile phones from the duo.
Chains snatched
Nearly 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from pedestrians in three incidents of chain snatching reported in the city on Sunday. In Muttada, a 53-year-old woman, who went for a walk around 6 a.m., was robbed of her nine sovereign gold chain. At Aruviyode, near Maruthur, two motorcycle-borne men snatched a five sovereign chain from a pedestrian around 3 p.m. This was followed by a similar incident at Vadakkenada near Fort around 8 p.m., when two motorcycle-borne men robbed a six sovereign chain from a pedestrian and sped away giving the police the slip.
