Re-routing of buses will ease congestion

Cleaning of Amayizhanjan Canal at Pazhavangadi is in full swing. The work has aggravated traffic hold-ups in the area. To ease congestion till the work is completed, all city buses need not start from East Fort and end their services there. Overbridge can be the point of origin and termination for some of them.

For this, buses should be allowed to turn right at Overbridge junction, take S.L. Theatre Road and go to Ayurveda College junction, via Chettikulangara, for their return journey. Similarly, a few buses to the Karamana side can be routed through the Manacaud-Killippalam bypass road.

With the monsoon and the threat of floods at Pazhavangadi and Thampanoor, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation can operate city buses as suggested above and mofussil services from the Vikas Bhavan depot. Mini-buses may be operated from here till the nearest point to Thampanoor.

Ayurveda College junction and Vikas Bhavan can function as monsoon bus stations. Buses toward south and east can be operated from Mettukada. Of course, passengers will have to put up with inconvenience.

Neelakantan,

Fort.

Unhygienic practice

Many houses on the roadside let out wastewater on to the roads. Besides creating a nuisance to road users, this practice also affects hygiene and sanitation in and around such areas and poses a serious health hazard.

The city corporation is well advised to instruct residents to contain wastewater within their own premises. If this is not possible, they should connect wastewater outlets to the nearest drain at their expense. Failure to do this should attract penal action.

O. Mathai,

Kowdiar.
