ERODE: The Bhavani-Komarapalayam bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs. 7.54 crores across River Cauvery, would be opened for traffic soon, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Tuesday evening.
Congestion
To ease the congestion between Bhavani and Komarapalayam, the Government sanctioned construction of the bridge across the Cauvery. (The old bridge, which was constructed more than a century ago is in a dilapidated condition).
Approach road
The construction work was completed on September 10, 2003, but without a proper approach road, the bridge was not opened for traffic. Later, the Government acquired 48,937 sq feet of land and laid the approach road on the Bhavani side. At present, the Government had sanctioned Rs. 1.59 crores as compensation for the land and the amount would soon be given to the landowners, the Collector said.
