Around the City

No power

There will be no power supply in the following areas between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 15 owing to maintenance work at Sulur sub-station: Sulur, Kangeyampalayam, Ranganathapuram and Kannampalayam.

On June 17 at Kalapatty sub-station: Kalapatty, Valiampalayam, Sharp Puram, Cheran Maanagar, Vellanaipatty, Mylampatty, Andakkapalayam and Serayampalayam.

Grievances meeting

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) will conduct a grievances redressal meeting on June 15 at 11 a.m. at the office of the Executive Engineer (Central) on the Coimbatore Corporation premises at Town Hall.

The TNEB has also organised a grievances meeting at Mettupalayam on the same day at the Executive Engineer's office at 11 a.m.

On the same day, another meeting will be conducted at the Executive Engineer's office in Tirupur at 11 a.m.

Council meeting

A Special Meeting of the Coimbatore Corporation Council would be held on June 20. The Mayor, T. Malaravan, would chair the meeting, a press release from the Corporation said.

Hostel admission for students

The District Social Welfare Office has invited applications from children who have lost both or either of their parents, children of lifetime convicts and heirs of patients suffering from leprosy for admission into the Sathya Ammaiyar Memorial Government Hostel for the year 2005-06.

Boys up to the age of 10 and girls up to 18 years of age will be admitted and provided with free books and notebooks besides food and shelter.

For details, contact the District Social Welfare Office at 2305126 or the hostel office at 2510969.

People residing elsewhere in the district can approach the Panchayat Union - social welfare extension officers.

Inauguration

Sindhi Ladies Forum Coimbatore has constructed a toilet block at the Panchayat Union Elementary School, Nambialaganpalayam in Vedapatti panchayat of Perur block through the PSG Rural Health Centre.

Built with an estimate of Rs. 30,000, this facility was inaugurated recently.

The school headmistress thanked the Ladies forum.

Thomas V. Chacko, Head of Department of Community Medicine, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, said that one of the reasons for high school drop out rate especially among girls is the lack of basic amenities such as toilets in schools.
