`Yellow pages' now available in Tamil

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Yellow Pages play a big role in providing easy access to information about various products. But it reaches only 10 per cent of the population in the State as it is mostly published in English, according to Tamil scholars. Two young men concerned about the lack of such a storehouse of information for Tamil speakers have brought a Tamil version out after two years. The first issue of "Tamizhil Yellow Pages' was released on Thursday last.

The publication, distributed free has details about several products and addresses of various institutions. The headings are provided both in Tamil and English for easy access of those who read both languages.

J. Viswanathan, who represents the publication, say 73 per cent of people in the State were literate and of this 65 per cent were Tamil speaking. For free copies, contact City India Trade Information, F9, Spencer Plaza, I phase, Anna Salai. Phone (28491586 or 4532) or log on to www.tamizhilyellowpages.com.
