PONDICHERRY: : Health Minister E. Valsaraj has said that the seats available in the first MBBS course in privately-managed Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences here would be shared equally during the 2005-2006 academic year between the government and the managements of the colleges as per the order issued by the Territorial Administration. The arrangement is not, however, applicable to Aarupadai Veedu Medical College in Pondicherry and Vinayaka Mission Medical College at Karaikal, as they have become deemed universities. Mr. Valsaraj said he had written to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to ensure that the government quota was also available for sponsoring its candidates in the medical colleges that had become deemed universities. Neither the Union Human Resource Development Ministry nor the University Grants Commission had informed the Administration when deemed university status was conferred on the two colleges.
