HUBLI: The Rs. 176-crore project for improving the drinking water supply in the twin cities is almost in the final stage of getting Cabinet approval, the former Mayor of Hubli-Dharwad and Congress leader Anilkumar Patil has said. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Patil said an increase in the water tariff is essential to get clearance for the Rs. 176-crore project. The increase in tariff and installation of water meters in houses will help the corporation repay the loan for the project, he added. Mr. Patil criticised the State unit of the BJP for organising a "padayatra" on the drinking water and Kalasa-Banduri Nala issue and said the party had taken action only after knowing the status of the project so as to claim that the Government yielded to their pressure and approved the project.
