Bomb hoax at Anantapur on second day in a row

    ANANTAPUR: For the second day in succession, Anantapur experienced another bomb hoax on Wednesday. The office chosen to create a scare among the staff and general public this time was the Regional Transport Office located behind the JNTU College of Engineering.

    According to the Regional Transport Officer, T. Madhusudhan Reddy, a security person of the office received a phone call around 10 am with one person claiming himself to be the leader of Penna Ahobilam dalam of Maoists giving the information that a bomb was planted on the office premises and it would explode around 12.30 pm.

    The security personnel informed the matter to an employee who arrived in by that time and in turn the message was passed on to the office superintendent and the RTO. Besides, the message was also passed on

    to the Rapthadu police, as the area fall under the jurisdiction of that police station.

    The dog and bomb detection squads arrived in at the office along with the incharge SI of Rapthadu, Prasad Reddy, around 10.40 am and started intense search of the premises for explosives. The bomb call turned out to be a hoax as no explosive material was found on the premises during the two-hour search.

    The main server of the information system of the office was taken out for safeguarding the information, in the event of any explanation. The employees of the office, the public visiting the office and the people living around the office premises heaved a sigh of relief after the police gave "no problem" clearance around 12.40 pm.

    Meanwhile, the police are yet to identify the bomb hoax callers of the two successive days.
