TIRUMALA: The work of air-conditioning the massive queue complex (II) meant for the common pilgrims is apace. As many as 30 devotees have already expressed their willingness to bear the entire cost of the project, which is put at around Rs. 345 lakhs. The massive complex has 23 spacious compartments where the devotees await their turn for a darshan of the Lord. The TTD required only 23 donors, so as to apportion the cost of air-conditioning each compartment to a donor. But with the donors' list getting stretched, the mood in the management is upbeat. According to estimates, the cost of air-conditioning each compartment is put around Rs. 15 lakhs. Talking to mediapersons, the TTD Special Officer, A.V. Dharma Reddy, said the management is already negotiating with two major companies for the supply of air-conditioning units, installation of transformers and other related works. The compartments in the complex are so spacious that each needs units with 20 tonnes output each. The officials of both companies, that agreed to slash their supply price of the air conditioners by more than 35 per cent, will hold discussions with the TTD on Friday.
