Nishant completes 100th flight

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The indigenous Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV), Nishant, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has completed its 100th flight.

Nishant has been developed by DRDO to meet the requirements of day or night battlefield surveillance, reconnaissance, target tracking and localisation for engaging guided weapons or artillery fire. It can be launched from a short-length launcher and is recovered with the help of a parachute.

This makes it mobile and the aircraft can be operated without a runway.

The Nishant has been developed in collaboration with the Aeronautical Development Establishment, Bangalore, a nodal agency; the Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory, Dehra Dun; the Research and Development Establishment (Engineers), Pune; and the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment, Agra, contributing in the development of major subsystems.

Senior Army officers recently saw the flights of the Nishant.

It has already undergone user trials and has been demonstrated to potential users.
