Mayur and Aishwarya clinch titles

GUNTUR: Mohith Mayur and Aishwarya Y.P. clinched the boys and girls' under-12 singles titles, respectively in the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Talent Series tennis tournament here on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu's Mayur subdued compatriot R. Ram Kumar 6-2, 6-3 for his second national title, the first being the Nutrine Naturo tournament crown at Chennai last year. Aishwarya blanked young Sansitha Nandakumar 6-0, 6-0 to emerge winner among the girls.

With a more powerful serve and better ground strokes, Mayur dominated the under-12 showdown, reversing the under-14 quarterfinal setback, where Ram Kumar got the better of him, 9-6. In earlier boys under-14 competition, Bharadwaj Acharya of AP ousted top seed Alla Srikar 9-2 in the quarterfinals and sidelined sixth seed K. Pradeep Reddy 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

The results: Boys under-12: Final: Mohith Mayur (TN) bt R. Ram Kumar (TN) 6-2, 6-3. Semifinals: Mohith bt B. Shrrinesh (AP) 6-1, 6-0; Ram Kumar bt K. Shivtej Reddy (AP) 6-0 (conceded). Quarterfinals: Shrrinesh bt Surya Pavan (AP) 9-8(4), Mohith bt Sharan S. Patil (Kar) 9-4, Shivtej bt S.M. Abdullah (AP) 9-4, Ram Kumar bt Alla Abhishek (AP) 9-3.

Boys under-14: Semifinals: R. Gokul (AP) bt Ram Kumar 1-6, 6-2, 6-3; Bharadwaj Acharya (AP) bt K. Pradeep Reddy (AP) 6-2, 6-2. Quarterfinals: Acharya bt Alla Srikar (AP) 9-2, Pradeep bt S. Pavan 9-4, Gokul bt D. Sai Nishant (AP) 9-7, Ram Kumar bt Mohith 9-6.

Doubles: Semifinals: Sharan S. Patil (Kar)/Mohith bt Sai Nishanth /Bharadwaj 8-5, A. Srikar/Y. Sriman (AP) bt Pradeep/S. Pavan 8-7(5).

Girls under-12: Final: Aishwarya Y.P. (AP) bt Sansitha Nandakumar (TN) 6-0, 6-0. Semifinals: Sansitha bt Sowjanya (AP) 6-1, 6-3; Aishwarya bt Sanjana Manoj Kumar (TN) 6-0, 6-1. Quarterfinals: Sansitha bt Zainab Ali Sajjad (AP) 8-6, Sowjanya bt K. Sneha Reddy (AP) 8-7(5), Aishwarya bt N.B. Saranya (AP) 8-0, Sanjana bt D. Neena Reddy (TN) 8-4.

Under 14: Semifinals: Sushma Gutta (AP) bt Pushpa Hasa Reddy (AP) 6-3, 6-4; Pudota Sindhura (AP) bt Yashika Reddy (AP) 6-3, 6-0. Quarterfinals: Sushma G. bt V. Nayantara (AP) 9-3, Pushpa H.R. bt Anushka Bhargava (AP) 9-3, Yashika bt Neha Purohit (AP) 9-3, Pudota S. bt Sanjana 9-2.
