THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : The Government on Wednesday sent the proposed National Law University Bill for promulgation by the Governor. The Bill proposes the establishment of a law university on the pattern of national law schools with headquarters in Kochi. Though the draft Ordinance had come to the consideration of the Cabinet last week, Finance Minister Vakkom Purushothaman reportedly suggested that the Governor should be the Chancellor of the University instead of the Chief Justice of India. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, told presspersons after Wednesday's Cabinet meeting that the provisions in the original draft remained. The Chief Justice would be the Chancellor of the university. Mr. Chandy said that the Governor was yet to communicate a decision on the recommendations of the Jail Review Committee. The committee's recommendations had earlier been rejected by the Governor.
