MYSORE: The JSS Mahavidyapeetha, in association with the Mysore Zilla Panchayat, will launch the Swarna Jayanti Rural Rozgar Yojana funded by the Union and State Governments on Thursday at Suttur. The Union Minister for Rural Development, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, will inaugurate the project. The project advisor, Mahadevappa, said that the objective of the project is to help improve the quality of life of people living below the poverty line. The core areas of the project are establishment of seed villages, promoting horticulture, nursery for forest development and sericulture. He said the programme will be launched in 25 districts across the State in a phased manner and the Government will release Rs. 1,485 crores for the scheme over a period of three years. Nearly 425 villages across the State will be selected for establishing "seed villages" and 10 small farmers will be identified in each village and given facilities to set up centres to market seeds produced by these villages. Special emphasis will be on promoting self-help groups and 50 nurseries will be established through the women's self-help groups in 12 districts. Scientists from agricultural universities, zilla, taluk, and gram panchayats, will be involved in the project at every step.
