MUMBAI: A cub reporter's adventurous way to pose curious questions to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R.R. Patil on the fate of dance bars landed her and her photographer colleague in trouble on Tuesday. Varsha Gopinathan of Mid Day, an English daily, sneaked into the `Janata Durbar' [people's court] that Mr. Patil was holding at his official residence, Chitrakoot. Posing as a dance girl, she moved close to the Minister and asked him why he wanted to order the closure of dance bars affecting the employment of thousands of "nautch" girls. Even as the Minister turned to others, she kept on popping up in between as the photographer Sadab Khan clicked, trying to capture the Minister and her in the same frame. The alarmed Minister alerted a police officer. Then they revealed their identities. Ms. Gopinathan and Mr. Khan were taken to the Malabar Hill police station where they were detained for questioning. A police officer said they are likely to be booked under Sec. 452 of IPC for house trespassing with wrongful intention, Sec. 419 for cheating by personation and Sec. 420 for cheating. The police had not arrested them till late in the evening.
