Blood donation

NEW DELHI: A large number of Sant Nirankari Mission devotees donated blood here on Tuesday on the occasion of World Blood Donors' Day.

The blood donation camp was organised by the Mission in cooperation with Indian Red Cross Society and Thalassemics India. Two blood collection teams from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and Armed Forces Transfusion Centre were present at the camp.

Devotees of the Mission also took out rallies from different parts of the Capital and neighbouring Ghaziabad.

National Day of Russia

NEW DELHI: A function was organised jointly by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the International Federation of Indo-Russian Youth Clubs here on Tuesday to mark the Day of Russia.

Senior Congress leader J.P. Agarwal, who inaugurated a photo exhibition on the different facets of Russian life by lighting the traditional lamp, said the celebration of the national day of Russia in the country helps in reiterating the age-old, traditional and time-tested friendship between peoples of the two countries. Former MP Lokesh Chandra emphasised the significance of the day in the history of Russia.

Later, well-known piano artiste Svetlana Radashkevitch presented a concert.

Felicitation

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, felicitated the newly elected members of the Delhi Pradesh Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Committee at her residence on Tuesday.

INTUC's Delhi unit president, Heera Lal Sharma, presented a memorandum listing important issues concerning workers in the Capital and sought her intervention in resolving them.

Consecration

NEW DELHI: The consecration of Lord Ayyappa will take place at Ayyappa Mandir in Gurgaon between 7-30 a.m. and 8 a.m. this coming Friday.

Organised by the Ayyappa Sewa Samiti, on the day of consecration a team of well-known priests from Kerala under the supervision of the temple's Thanthri Brahmashri Puthumana, Sreedharan Namboothiri will perform the prathista poojas and rituals.

Power cuts

NEW DELHI: The private power distribution company - NDPL - has announced power shutdowns in some areas of North Delhi on Thursday. Areas that would remain affected include Ranapratap Bagh, Mall Road, Lancer Road and Majnu Ka Tila (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), Dhirpur and Naraina village (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Pushpanjali (Pitampura) and Rishi Nagar (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Rohini Sector-13 and Sector-9 (10-30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Andha Mugal and Pratap Nagar (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
