Council to intensify consumer awareness

TIRUPATI: The Chittoor District Consumer Council has taken a number of decisions at its recent meeting here to intensify the movement and create greater awareness among the public about consumerism.

According to the general secretary of the council, P. Ramachandra Rao, a major decision taken was to despatch representations to the Commissioner, Civil Supplies, the Secretary to Government, Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Department to initiate steps to bring in the necessary amendments to certain sections of the Consumer Protection Act.

Aid to be sought

It was also resolved to approach the department, seeking financial assistance to help the council organise more and more awareness programmes.

In another resolution it was decided to shift the focus into rural areas also by organising lectures by officials of the revenue, legal metrology, medical and health, electricity and telecommunications and other departments.
