BANGALORE: A high-level committee has recommended to the Government to expedite work on opening a food-processing park at Gejjalagere in Maddur taluk of Mandya district. The park, which will come up on 79 acres of land, is expected to give a boost to the trade in food products.
For jaggery units
The committee headed by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Krishna, held a meeting here on Wednesday and suggested to the Government to conduct a technical study for the revival of sick jaggery units and rice mills in Mandya district. The panel also suggested the constitution of a team to conduct a survey of sick industries in the district, says a press release from the Karnataka Udyog Mitra.
Other decisions
Others major decisions of the committee include acquisition of 225 acres of land at Srirangapatna by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board to set up industries, installation of an express feeder at Somanahalli to ensure quality power to the industrial area, and distribution of passbooks to businessmen who run industries in Mandya district. The MLAs from the district have urged the Minister for Industries, P.G.R. Sindhia, to encourage the garment industry in the district to prevent migration of people to Bangalore from villages and towns.
