Landmines unearthed
Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM:
A Maoist dump, consisting of 10 Claymore mines, some plastic sheets and five empty mine boxes, was unearthed by the police near Pokalapalem village in G.K. Veedhi mandal on Wednesday, according to the Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar Jain.
Also during the day, the police detected five Claymore mines planted by the naxalites on the Kunukuru-Balarevu road in Koyyuru mandal, along with a 75-metre-long wire. The mines were defused.
Mr. Jain regretted that landmines were planted on a road as any pressure on them would result in the mines getting activated causing harm to the lives of gairijans using the road.
He also recalled the incident in which a lightning had set off landmines planted on a road killing some Girijans.
