Bid to ensure allocated share of water for State

ANANTAPUR: Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will monitor the flows into Tungabhadra High Level Main Canal (HLMC) in Karnataka territory to ensure that Andhra Pradesh gets its allocated share of water from the current water year, the Minister for

Panchayat Raj, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, announced at the Tungabhadra dam site near Hospet in Karnataka on Tuesday.

Accompanied by the Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, the Zilla Parishad Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, the Singanamala legislator, S. Sailajanath, the Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, the Superintending

Engineer of HLC, Somi Reddy, the Tungabhadra dam SE, K. Krishna Reddy, and others inspected the modernisation works on the HLC in Bellary district on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media en route and at the dam site, the Minister stated that the Governments of both the states had agreed for CISF monitoring of the canal so that pro-rata allocation of water was realized by Andhra Pradesh. An amount of Rs. 2.1 crores required for CISF deployment had already been released by our Government, he stated.

The team expressed satisfaction on the quality of works on the canal taken up to minimise the transmission and seepage losses and also to prevent

breaches. The HLMC was vulnerable for breaches at several points and the water release was disrupted several times during the last two years. Of the 69 works taken up with Rs. 33 crores, 43 were already completed and 26 were in progress, the Minister explained. He asked the contractors to complete the works in time so that the water release into the canal was not delayed
