Mercury soars again

CHENNAI: The mercury level in the city soared again to 40 degree Celsius on Wednesday, marking the ninth such day in the first half of this month.

At the Chennai Airport, it was the 11th day with the maximum temperature crossing the 40-degree-celsius mark.

The Meteorological Department says this is because of the delayed onset of sea breeze. The hot spell may soon come to an end as the southwest monsoon is set to progress further. Once this happens, Chennai will also get showers. In June, the city normally receives five cm of rain.

Training programme

The Tamilnadu centre of ABK AOTS DOSOKAI will organise a training programme on `Office Kaizen' or Japanese management techniques on June 25 at its office on 37, Nelson Manickam Road in Aminjikarai. For details, contact 23740318/23743575/30903332.

Handbook

The Brain Mapping Academy has come out with a `Handbook of Physics & Chemistry'. It gives explanation for all technical terms, concise definitions and brief explanations of scientific terms and concepts for the benefit of the CBSE, the Matriculation and the State Board students. Notebooks distributed

Nearly 500 students received free notebooks under the auspices of the Baitulmal Tamilnadu on June 11. The organisation also provides financial assistance for nearly 2,000 students from class VI to those in college.

Admissions to

degree courses

The Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences admitted candidates who qualified a common entrance examination for BDS, B.Sc. (N) and BPT. According to a release from the institution, 50 were admitted to B.Sc and another 50 for BPT.

Woman falls to death

A 30-year-old woman died after she fell from the second floor of a building under construction at Kodambakkam on Wednesday.

The body was removed to the Government General Hospital for post-mortem.

Police said Sahayam, a worker at the construction site, was carrying a water pot.

She was leaning over the newly constructed wall of the second floor balcony when it gave away.
