Woman robbed of gold chain

CHENNAI: A 35-year-old woman was robbed of a gold chain weighing six sovereigns while she was returning home on Tuesday evening.

According to police, Jaya , a resident of Thanthoniamman Koil Street, Villivakkam, was passing through Welcome Colony when two persons on a two-wheeler snatched the chain she was wearing and escaped.

Villivakkam police are investigating.

Constable dies

in accident

A head constable attached to the Assistant Commissioner of Police's office at Villivakkam died in a road accident on Tuesday. According to police, Marudhappan (40), was returning home on a two-wheeler when he was hit by a lorry from behind near Avadi. He died on the spot. Avadi police are investigating.

Fatal jump

A watchman of a private school, Chinnaiah (61), allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the school at Vyasarpadi on Tuesday.

The body has been taken for post-mortem. MKB Nagar police are investigating.

A 29-year-old woman died after she fell from a motorcycle near the Quaid-e-Milleth College on Medavakkam Main Road on Tuesday. Pallikaranai police identified the victim as Lissy Lewis, a resident of Sridevi Nagar, in Madambakkam. Lissy was travelling with her husband and their children on a TVS Suzuki motorcycle when the tragedy happened.

The motorcycle went over a pothole and in the impact, Lissy was thrown off. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where she died.

Hit-and-run

A 35-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the GST Road near the Tambaram bus terminus on Monday night. Police identified the victim as Manickavelu, a vendor from Chengalpattu. The accident took place when he was crossing the road to catch a bus to Chengalpattu. A patrol vehicle saw him lying in a pool of blood and took him to the Chromepet Government Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
