MANGALORE: Despite gaining vital clues about the assailants of Polali Ananthu, an accused in the Jabbar murder case, the district police are yet to make headway in arresting them. Ananthu was hacked to death by a group of four or five persons at Polali Dwara in Bajpe police station limits last Tuesday. The police have set up five teams to arrest the accused. While three teams were set up immediately after the incident, two teams were subsequently added to trace the culprits. They include teams from the Dakshina Kannada District Anti-Rowdy Squad and staff from the Panambur subdivision, who have been drafted for the job. The Superintendent of Police, Soumendu Mukherjee, said all the teams have been provided with necessary support. He expressed the hope that the murderers will be caught soon. Police are investigating various angles, including the widely believed one that Ananthu was murdered for his alleged role in the murder of M.D. Jabbar, the then Mangalore Taluk Panchayat President.
Buried
In a related development, the police on Wednesday buried the body of an unidentified man who was allegedly stabbed during the violence that broke out during the funeral procession of Ananthu. The body had been kept in the mortuary of a private hospital here in the hope that someone would claim it. The Additional Superintendent of Police, B.S. Lokesh Kumar, said the body was buried at Kuloor.
