KOCHI: Anti-Marxist politics in the State has come to an end with the `disintegration' of the United Democratic Front (UDF), said Pinarayi Vijayan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the campaign rallies undertaken by the party in the district, Mr. Vijayan said the UDF had ceased to exist. During the byelections in the Azhikode and Koothuparamba Assembly constituencies, the Congress could not even find workers to function as election agents. A majority of the workers had left the Congress and joined National Congress (Indira), led by the former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran, he said. Mr. Vijayan criticised the UDF Government of implementing policies which, he said, would undermine general education, agriculture and other sectors of the State. On the proposed Smart City project, he said the Government should dispel the doubts in the minds of people regarding the project. The CPI(M) would not oppose the project if it was beneficial to the State. Even if the Government implemented the project, it would not be able to generate the promised employment opportunities during its term, he added.
Party issues
Referring to the organisational issues in the CPI(M), Mr. Vijayan said no one should underestimate the party. "This is a party for which hundreds are willing to sacrifice their lives. None of the party members will quit the party or revolt against it as exhorted by M.N. Vijayan [a Marxist theoretician] and others," he said. The party was like a mother to its members. It would correct the erring members. But the question was whether the erring members were willing to be corrected. A few of them had corrected their wrong steps. Those who had refused to correct themselves had ended up in the wilderness. The party has gathered more strength after its State-level conference in Malappuram and this would be utilised for the good of the people, he said. Sebastian Paul, MP; CPI (M) district secretary Gopi Kottamurickal; and the party leaders P. Rajeev, K.J. Jacob and C.K. Manisankar participated.
