AGITATION: Members of the Democratic Progressive Alliance staging a demonstration in the city on Wednesday.
MADURAI: Members of various political parties under the Democratic Progressive Alliance staged a demonstration here on Wednesday in support of various demands, including reinstatement of road workers. The DMK district secretary, V. Velusamy, led the agitation near Anna Bus Stand. Around 500 party cadres, including 25 women, raised slogans for reinstatement of road workers whose services were terminated by the State Government. They also demanded supply of ration rice at the rate of Rs. two per kg through the public distribution system. The Madurai MP, P. Mohan, the Madurai (East) MLA, N. Nanmaran, of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the former MP, A.G.S. Rambabu, of the Congress, and the Mayor, C. Ramachandran, participated.
