Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 50, palmolein oil - 38.50, sunflower oil - 47, tamarind (flower variety) - 20 to 28, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 42 to 48, chillies (new) - 10 to 15, rice (2716) - 13, rice (superfine) - 15, rice (samba masoori) - 15 to 17, rice (sona masoori) - 17 to 19, black gram - 27 to 28.50, red gram - 25 to 29.50.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday in some areas under the Governorpet section due to pre-arranged shutdown for re-conductoring the 11 kv line.

The affected areas are: Vijaya Krishna Super Bazaar, part of Sivalayam Street, part of Gopalakrishnaiah Street, part of Attarattaiah Street, part of Alibaig Street, part of Besant Road and Mahalakshmi Towers.

Panel to visit bio-plant

Members of a high-level committee constituted by the Union Non-Conventional Energy Resources Ministry will visit the bio-methanation plant in the city to study its functioning.

The members of the committee expressed willingness to visit the plant and gain first-hand knowledge of its functioning after the Municipal Commissioner, V Usha Rani, explained to them the successful operation of the plant.

Ms. Usha Rani who attended the meeting of the committee held at Lucknow recently explained the salient features of the plant that was designed to utilise municipal wastes, solid wastes in particular for bio-gas that could be used for power generation to the participants.
