VISAKHAPATNAM: The State Government has opened 36 Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKCs) at various engineering colleges to provide training in soft skills to engineering graduates in their final year, according to the Senior Manager of the Centre for Good Governance, T. Srinivasulu Reddy. Addressing EAMCET rankers and their parents at The Hindu Career Guidance Workshop here on Wednesday, he said that there was a lot of potential for software professionals with about 2.50 lakh new jobs being created in the country every year. Prof. Reddy said that the Government had decided to select only girl students for JKC training to bring about attitudinal changes in society. It was unfortunate that girls, in spite of their educational achievements, were not being encouraged even by their parents to take up a career of their choice, he said and underlined the need for creating genuine interest in women to achieve something in life and to contribute to the growth of society. ``Over 1,500 girls have been trained through JKCs during the last six months. Those who have undergone training would in turn conduct `finger tip' courses for students of engineering colleges to enhance their confidence levels,'' Prof. Reddy said.
