VISAKHAPATNAM: The counselling programme for admission into post-graduate and diploma courses of Andhra University Colleges of arts and commerce streams will commence on June 17 at the Convocation Hall on the university campus. The admission is based on ranks obtained by candidates in the AU Common Entrance Test 2005. Admission memos and rank cards have been despatched to all candidates, according to the principals of campus colleges. They said in a joint press release that those who had not received the same could attend the counselling on the dates specified. The admission process will start on Friday with counselling for candidates under sports, NCC, children of Ex-Servicemen and physically handicapped for all courses. Counselling for other courses will be held on the following dates till June 28.
Extended counselling
It was also decided to conduct extended counselling on June 29 to fill reserved seats. They would be filled first by the sliding process. Then all left-over seats would be converted into open category and filled by sliding in the extended counselling session. Candidates who attended the counselling but did not join any course or college due to non-availability of seats in course or colleges which they wanted to join, were eligible to attend the extended counselling. Sliding was allowed during the extended counselling from one college to another and from one course to another, subject to availability of seats. A candidate was allowed to avail himself/herself of the sliding facility only once. A fee of Rs. 500 would be collected.
Science courses
The counselling for science courses will be held at the TLN Sabha Hall from June 17 to 30, according to the Principal of AU College of Science and Technology, P. Veerraju. After counselling was held for seats under the special categories the first phase would be held from June 18 to 26, followed by the second phase from June 27 during which sliding facility would be allowed. Prof. Veerraju informed that 65 new colleges were offering PG courses in various subjects taking the number of seats in affiliated colleges to around 4,500. The number of seats in the AU campus is about 1,200. The number of additional seats available apart from the seats already notified is: 48 each in microbiology, bio-chemistry and zoology, 624 in chemistry, 240 in physics, 60 in mathematics and 96 in electronics.
