VISAKHAPATNAM: The Municipal Corporation of Visakhapatnam (MCV) will supply water on alternate days to all the areas in the city from Friday. The scarcity is likely to continue till the southwest monsoon advances bringing rain. The decision follows the drying up of the Gosthani, water from which caters for several areas of the city. The Municipal Commissioner, N. Srikant, told reporters on Wednesday that the supply from the Gosthani would last for another two days. The release of water from the Tatipudi reservoir has run into problems since there were demands for supply to Vizianagaram town, too. Even if recharging from Tatipudi was taken up, it would take five days for the water to reach the city. (The supply from the Gosthani is about 5 mgd (million gallons daily). Mr. Srikant said that the areas to which the Gosthani water catered could not be supplemented from other lines and hence the alternate day supply. The alternate day supply had already been going on in some parts of the city for nearly a month. On the much-delayed Godavari water project, the Commissioner said that the tenders for work on the Narava filtration plant would be finalised in four or five days after which it would take months for the completion of the work. For the two flyovers proposed to be constructed at an outlay of Rs. 44 crores to ease traffic congestion, seven bids had been received at pre-qualification stage, he revealed. The inviting and opening of technical bids would be completed by August 15. The flyover from Asilmetta to the Divisional Railway Manager's office would have ramps to facilitate the traffic towards the railway station to join it. The number of ramps might be increased later. The MCV would take up the construction from its own funds. Tenders for the proposed Ring Road and the Jail Road would be called soon.
