Relieved of cash
Three unidentified persons made away with Rs. 5,000 after offering to help a businessman, who fell of his two-wheeler at Sultan Bazaar on Tuesday. Aqeel Khan, 38, was returning home when his vehicle skidded off the road. Two youngsters approached him offering help. While one helped him collect his bag that had fallen on the road, the other opened the scooter's dickey and took out the cash bag kept inside. By the time Khan realised, the duo fled on a two-wheeler.
House burgled
Thieves took away Rs. 75,000 cash and gold ornaments weighing 15 tolas from the house of a businessman, at Hailalbagh in Azampura on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The house owner, Syed Abdul Jabbar, and his family members were away when the burglars struck.
Held for `shielding' friend
The Neredmet police on Wednesday arrested one, Pandu, who allegedly tried to shield his friend, Mahesh, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. Pandu confessed to the police that he and Mahesh had lured the girl by offering her a soft drink on June 9. Mahesh allegedly laced the soft drink with sedatives and sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light when the girl approached the police on Monday.
