PONDICHERRY: The Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary party leader, M. Ramadass, has urged the Pondicherry University to open a Centre for Post Graduate studies in Karaikal region. He said in a release here on Thursday that he had written a letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University in this regard making out a strong case for the facility in the region. Mr.Ramadass said that the first Vice Chancellor of the University the late Dr K Venkatasubramanian had opened one centre each in Karaikal and Mahe regions. But the Karaikal centre became defunct within a few years of its start. Though several schemes were being implemented by the Government, Karaikal was still reeling under poverty, unemployment and imbalances in its developmental activities, he said. The educational institutions in the region were not also able to meet the aspirations of the local students. With Karaikal having become a separate district now there was genuine justification for the University to open its centre of PG studies there
