PONDICHERRY: Karaikal Struggle Group, a non political multi-sectoral action group of local citizens of the region, has announced that a rally would be taken out by activists of the group on June 30 to reiterate its plea that Karaikal be granted the status of a Union Territory. The convenor of the group, S.P.Selvashanmugham, said in a release on Thursday that the whole region had been neglected for decades together resulting in its backwardness in educational, agricultural and other developmental sectors. A detailed discussion was held and resolution adopted at the high level committee meeting of the group in Karaikal on Wednesday on the next course of action to procure justice to the people. Among those who addressed the meeting included the convenor of the group, a senior freedom fighter of Karaikal, R Ramasreenivasan.
